Living with a Nook Color tablet #1

Although I'm an avid reader, I've held off buying an eReader for months. When the urge to read William Gibson's last novel, Zero History, became overwhelming, deciding to acquire a copy in eBook format was a great rationalization to finally buy an eReader. I've had a hankering for the Nook Color eReader since its release by Barnes & Noble in November, 2010. An android tablet in eReader clothing with a 7-inch color screen was just too good to ignore any longer. After a quick run to the local Best Buy during lunch hour, I had my new toy.

The Nook Color is a pleasure to use. The backlit color screen makes it easy to read at night, and also does double duty as a flashlight in a dark hotel room or other dim low light environments, when necessary.  The tablet's size and weight makes the unit extremely portable and allows me to read comfortably using only one hand. To maintain the small footprint but still offer some protection to the tablet while traveling, I opted for the Franklin Sleeve cover from Barnes & Noble. This minimalist cover is perfect for my needs, and still allows me to slip the covered table into the outer pocket of my jacket or tuck the tablet into a small fanny pack along with glasses, keys, small camera, etc., if I'm off exploring on foot.

The Nook Color offers more abilities than just a great eReader. Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g/n) and the included web browser provides usable access to web based email clients like Gmail and Yahoo!, social sites such as Facebook in either full or mobile configurations, and YouTube as long as you connect to the mobile version at m.youtube.com. MP3 audio and MP4 format videos are supported by the media player, and the Pandora internet radio application is great for listening to your favorite online stations anywhere you have Wi-Fi access.

I was a bit disappointed that the nifty note generation function available when reading eBooks wasn't a stand-alone app. According to recent news, Barnes & Noble will release an update for the Nook Color sometime in April that will include an upgrade to Android 2.2, onboard Adobe Flash and a Nook store that will offer additional applications for the Nook. While I'm hoping one of the new applications will be a simple text editor of some sort, I came up with a work around for taking notes on the Nook during meetings, while at lunch or where ever.

Since you can hover over any single word in an eBook, and toggle a menu to highlight, take notes, share on a social site or look up the word, I simply create my own "eBook" and transfer it to my nook. Calibre is a free and open source e-book library management and format conversion application that will run on Windows, Mac, and Linux platforms. After downloading Calibre, I simply create a text file with days of the month or a schedule of events, convert the text file to EPUB format, then transfer the EPUB eBook to my Nook and I'm set up to take notes as needed. I used this method while attending the NAB/BEA 2011 Show in Las Vegas in lieu of toting around my laptop while at the show.

  1. Reels appear horizontally or column-like throughout your gaming device. Depending on the slot sport you’re half in}, you’ll discover totally different icons 원 엑스 벳 or symbols within these reels. When selecting a machine that claims a excessive payout proportion, look intently on the commercial earlier than sitting down. In many circumstances, the small print will clarify the actual odds with phrases like "chosen machines" or "a lot as} 98%," which implies that only variety of the} slots in that brand pays the advertised rate.
